The Installation
A spilt Rail fence is just too simple to put together. You need to put the vertical columns about 4 feet in height and about 10 feet apart with 3 or 4 support beams. You might even have cross support beams for extra security. Just a sit is easy to install, the Split Rail fence needs an extra bit of care, initially that is. A little bit of effort is required to keep it tamped regularly till it settles down on its won. Using some gravel to do it will help fix the fence sooner and more securely. Farms prefer the Split Rail fence, as it is good against the cattle and horses. However, the smaller animals can always squeeze in.

Due to the immense popularity of the Split Rail fences, and the declining availability and rising costs of wood, Vinyl is fast catching as an attractive alternate to wood. The wide variety of colors, designs and being lightweight, make vinyl a popular choice. Many designers have been able to come with very creative patterns in Spilt Rail fences made of Vinyl. The fact that vinyl is all weather friendly and needs absolutely no maintenance has also propped up demand for Split Rail fence in Vinyl. The Vinyl Split Rail fence can be said to be a wonderful blend of tradition and modern elegance.
With more and more option in materials likely to open up in future, one thing is certain, The Split Rail fence will continue to be an all time favorite, wood or no wood.
