Saving water in kitchen - Save water while cooking




Cooking usually involves a large use of water, and then it may be for washing the vegetables or for boiling or even as an ingredient. Further more the cooking process uses water for washing the vessels which needs large quantities of water. Often in hurry of cooking most of tend to forget a few things such as closing the tap or even reusing the water thus wasting lots of water. However by developing a few habits lots of water can be saved in the kitchen

Of all activities in the kitchen washing uses up the highest quantity of water. Turning off the water when washing dishes will save lots of water. For those who have two sinks can easily save water by filling one sink with wash water and other with rinse water. Similarly, while washing dishes don't pre-rinse them. While buying a dishwasher go for a machine which doesn't require pre-rinsing. Further more when washing dishes wash only when there is full load, you will not only save water but also energy.

Fix up the leakages

Various researches have shown that more than 10% of the water used in the kitchen is wasted through leakages. To prevent such wastages keep checking the pipes and faucets regularly, and there are any leakages correct them immediately. And surely every one remembers how small boy just by putting his finger in the small crack of a dam and saved the whole dam.

Reuse clean household

One can save large amount of water by collecting all the water that is wasted while waiting for the hot water to reach the faucet. The saved water can be reused to water house plants. Similarly the water that is used to boil eggs and steam vegetables can also be reused.

With help of water saving equipments such as dish washers and aerator taps lots of water can be effectively saved. If one develops the habit of closing the tap when not needed, reuse water and right way of using the dishwasher can save lots of water, energy and thus money.
