Replacing Window Sill Panels
A portion of the window ledge that stretches into the interior or the exterior of a room is known as a window sill. Also referred to as a window stool, window sills are horizontal and can vary in size and width. Wood, PVC, stone such, as slate, granite or marble are materials that are used to make window sills. Window sills add to the beauty of the home dcor. They can be left untouched or can be used to accommodate a potted plant or to display some decorative stuff.
Window sill panels maintenance
Window sills face the harshness of the elements and hence tend to decay if wooden, peel off if synthetic and pale if painted. They can also chip off or break if stone has been used and may develop cracks or cuts. Regular maintenance and cleaning is essential to keep the window sills looking great. When window sill panels look in need of repair, the best option is to replace them. Replacing window sill panels requires some skill and aesthetic sense. If you are thinking of changing the window sill from wood to PVC or stone or the other way about, you need to first match it with the dcor of your house.
Replacing window sill panels
If a window sill panel is made of wood, chances are that they may rot or decay in some time. To replace it with another window sill panel, you need to first remove the exterior trim of the window sill. First using a knife to score a caulk around the outside of the window frame and then using a pry bar to remove the panel can do this. Take out the window frame and check for the extent of rotting that has taken place. It is advisable to change the entire sill than just one portion of it. Replace the rotten window sill panel with new cedar wood or other wood sill to fit in place and nail to the surface. Once you are satisfied with the fit and size of the new window sill panel, fit the window back into its place. Paint the entire structure to give a uniform look.
