How to use tile nippers
Tile nippers are used to create circular cuts in ceramic tile. They can also be used to create straight or angled cuts although you will find it much easier to use a tile cutter or wet saw to make these types of cuts. Forever wear eye protection as very sharp fragments of the tile can shoot from the cut as it is being made. In some cases it is not probable to mark the tile cut directly. If this is the case, you will require making a template using a piece of cardboard and then transfer those markings to the tile. Some tiles have very sleek surfaces and it can be difficult to mark the tile cut you need made. If a lubricant pen will not mark the surface of the tile you can mark the underside of the tile using a pencil.
More of the tile nippers:
Once the tile has been noticeable, hold it firmly over an empty container and proceed to take small "nips" or "bites" out of it using the tile nippers. Take your time and stay the "bites" small, otherwise you risk breaking the tile and having to start all over again. While you have reached the marked line, proceed very carefully so as not to "overbite" the marked line. After the tile is totally cut and finished you can use a piece of 60 grit sandpaper or a special rubbing stone used by ceramic tile contractors to smooth the finished edge. This is vital to do when the cut will be exposed as the edge of the cut tile will be very sharp and could cause injury.
Conclusion:
Use a tile nipper for unbalanced cuts. Score your cut line with a glass cutter or usefulness knife. Then nibble off undersized bits of tile until you remove what you need. It helps to achieve gridlines in the area you want removed. This will help you stay the nibbled pieces small. Be patient when by means of a tile nipper, if you take off pieces that are too big you could go beyond your cut line. Tile nippers will leave uneven edges on the tile so use them in less visible areas or where you'll be covering it with trim, like around plumbing fixtures.
