There are many issues facing home business owners that are exclusive to the home business category. Before one jumps to start a business at home, be sure to think through some of these home business challenges one may face before and during setting up. When cash flow is tight, the home often becomes the default control center for small businesses. It is important to remember that although it might be convenient to bring business into the home, but neighbors have a different perspective. Home is the place they go to flee the noises and pressures of the workplace. One should also keep in mind that when the workday is over one still have to live with these people and any hard feelings the business activities have created.

Deliveries and clients:

Depending on the nature of the business, deliveries may represent a significant portion of business activities. Regrettably, delivery trucks can also be a major inconvenience for neighbors, particularly if the street is known for peace and quiet. A better approach might be to either rent a post office box or take advantage of a service like mailboxes. If business involves selling products retail, then do not even try to run the business out of home. Customer traffic will drive the neighbors crazy and chances are it will break municipalities zoning laws. If the business is in a service industry and typically schedule appointments one client at a time, a home-based business probably will not raise any red flags in the neighborhood.

Storage and employees:

A lot of home-based entrepreneurs use the garage as their primary storage facility for business. This can be tricky, mainly if there is regularity in transferring items in and out of the garage. If someone is only storing a few items that rarely use in the garage that will be fine. And if someone using the garage as a supply depot, you it better to rent storage space somewhere else. As business grows, one will need to hire employees to keep up. It is possible to base one or two employees out of the house for a while, but once reaching the stage that one need to hire staff it will likely be time to find a more permanent residence for the business.
