Bunk Beds

Queue it up

The beds that are one on top of the other i.e. the beds lined up vertically are known as bunk beds. The origin of bunk beds can be traced down to military camps. The purpose of them is saving space. As the beds are used only for sleeping, in the nights, they do not remain on the floor and occupy useful space. Stacking of beds on one another is a very good idea in a teenager's room because it is already full of mess lying around everywhere. A bunk bed makes the bedroom look more spacious and movable.
The number of berths or beds in a bunk bed depends on the number of siblings those who are going to occupy them. It could be 2 or 3.

The Bed

Dimensions of a bunk bed are just like any common single bed. i.e. minimum 3 Ft. and maximum of 4..5 Ft. advisable. The most important point of a bunk bed is the way the upper beds are going to be accessed. Most of the times, there are horizontal bands on the shorter side of the bed, which act as a ladder when required. The treatment of the shorter edges of these steps is important. The edge should not be too sharp and must be blunted a little so that it does not hurt while placing your foot on it and climbing up. Sometimes, a small series of bars is provided at one end of the width of the bed. This is like any regular ladder and less harmful.

The material used for making bunk beds is usually wood, but wrought iron furniture is also catching up fast. A wooden bed is much lighter than a metal one and hence more easily movable. The joints at the corners are very important and require being strong and properly fixed. The only crucial part about a bunk bed is deciding upon who will sleep on which level.

Appearance

The beds have to be of the color that suits the rest of the interior furniture. They may not be of the same color, but should be belonging to the same color family.
